HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling)

In situations where it would be impractical to cut an open trench for pipe laying, HDD would be used to resolve the problem of laying pipes in these circumstances with the least disturbance to the existing structure and traffic flow.

HDD permits utilities to be installed in a path protective duct and at a depth that is controlled and guided without damage or disruption and no impact to the above ground surface. The position of the head of the drill can be tracked thus allowing the drilling machine to vary both the horizontal and vertical vectors of the drilling rod. Drilling muds such as bentonite slurries can be used to both lubricate and provide a structured support for placement of duct, pipes, cables on withdrawal of the reaming head.

HDD will be utilised mainly on road crossing where open trench cannot be done and at location where space of at least 2.0 m lengths X 1.5m width X 1.0 m depth can be dug at the entry and exit points with road reserve and approved area.
