To achieve a futureproof communications network (Voice, Video Data) in high-rise buildings, a fibre optic infrastructure serving each individual dwelling should be installed.
A low-cost start option is to use Air Blown Fibre technology that is developed by British Telecom for access network deployments. This technology allows fibre just in time (fibre on demand), flexibility in design and upgradeability in terms of fibre count and fibre type (e.g. Multimode to single mode or new fibre types as they become available).
This technology is facilitated by the use of micro-ducts and fibre units, on providing a pathway and the fibre carrying the signal. The fibre is removable without re-cabling, thus updated fibre can replace blown out old technology fibre, and this would be near as possible to a futureproof solution.
